Hybrid and animated paintings
“C minor” is the result of a collaboration with composer and lead singer of System of A Down Serj Tankian. The idea of the collaboration came from the two artists' similar sensitivities of combining visual arts and music. Inspired by Serj Tankian's music Alina Mnatsakanian created animated paintings, while Tankian composed original music based on Mnatsakanian's art.
This series of works include Hybrid and animated paintings. Hybrid paintings mix conventional methods of painting and drawing with computer-generated art. The result is printed as one of a kind editions using pigmented ink on archival paper or aluminum. An animated painting is a painting that evolves gradually over the duration of the music, where the viewer can see many mutations of the work in a video format.
