Geographical Genealogy
2023, acrylic on wood
Based on research supported by the city of Neuchâtel in 2022, 25 people were interviewed for the project titled Geo-identities.
A part of the result, presented here, has evolved to take the form of imaginary cities.
The birthplace and places of residence of each participant are superposed on the birthplaces of their parents and grandparents to create a new shape. This becomes “an imaginary city,” or even a city of identity, shaped by specific cultures and lived and transmitted experiences.
Ahmad, Ana, Axel, Denis, Donia, François, Hazuki, Hekmat, Kim, Marie-Hermine, Maoro and Wiktoria are the inspirations for this installation.
